Season 1, Episode 6
Qian Julie Wang is the author of her upcoming memoir Beautiful Country: Memoir of an Undocumented Childhood and a commercial litigator in New York City, USA.
Julie Wang is an amazing woman with an inspiring story. Julie’s memoir was picked up by Viking and Doubleday publishing. It’s due to come out in autumn 2021. I got chatting with her about living in New York in poverty, after having left China fairly well off. We talk about her parents’ decision to move to the US, as well as the troubles she had in the education system. Julie also shares how she wrote her book on her phone! This is one of my favourite interviews and it’s a great listen.
Since the interview, Julie and I were talking and it turns out that Doubleday books have chosen her book as their lead book in autumn 2021! A huge deal, as it shows how much Doubleday believes in her book, and congrats once again to Julie. I can’t wait to read it!
